Having spent more time than I care to admit thinking this question over. I have decided that it is time to share it with the broader public.
Are you ready? ?
**How many strollers does one growing family need?**
You see, I have an umbrella stroller in each car trunk (of which there are two) one of which has a bum wheel (very annoying). I also have a more heavy duty stroller that lives on the porch and is used primarily for exploring the neighborhood. I ALSO have a universal infant seat carrier which is currently living way back in the closet under the stairs, obviously obsolete for my current needs, but with an infant on the way I can't make up my mind to get rid of it.
Now for those of you who can't believe that one crazy woman would actually BUY 4 strollers in 15 months, don't worry! I only paid a total of about $60 for all of them combined. So far, so good, but the problem is that once the new baby comes I'm going to want a DOUBLE stroller right? Should that replace one or two or three that I already have? Or just add to my already surprisingly large collection?
Part of me was thinking that if I found a double stroller I could get rid of the infant seat carrier because you can carry an infant seat in a double stroller, right? Would I want to do that? Is it even safe? What if I wanted to go out sometimes with JUST the infant? Would the double stroller seam cumbersome? Should a double stroller replace the stroller on the porch, assuming that the baby will always join in the neighborhood jaunts? What about the umbrella strollers? Are they pretty well useless with two?
Honestly, at this point I am tempted to keep my eyes out for a nice inexpensive-to-free double stroller AND keep all my other four, but that makes part of me feel acquisitive and selfish, bogged down in strollers! Could one possibly really NEED 5 strollers???
Help! What do you suggest?!

In Washington (a place where you want a good stroller) I had a fabulous one that was lightweight, easy to deploy with one hand (since the baby was in the other, duh), and very sturdy. It was maneuverable (necessary for city streets) and held two kids, with the infant able to lie down in the back and the toddler up in front.
It was European, needless to say, and not cheap but not bank-breaking either.
One day I came out of the doctor's office, put the kids in the car, and drove away, leaving the stroller on the side of the road. When I went back it was gone.
I've never seen a better one, and I subsequently got a bulky American one that was terrible.
I don't like umbrella strollers (since you can't put two kids in them and you can't put your bag on the handles and the kid you can put in them looks terribly uncomfortable). I always think the bulky strollers end up being more trouble than they are worth.
I also once had an old-fashioned carriage that you could pile any number of kids in plus groceries, and had huge wheels that enabled you to go up stairs, if you had the upper-body strength to manage it.
The bed part of it could be taken right off the base (it was on springs, very comfortable) and brought inside with baby still asleep, lying flat. Or there was a backrest that folded up so baby could sit up.
Not very maneuverable, but it had its points...
This is all probably no help at all. Sorry. At least get rid of the umbrella stroller with the bum wheel! :)
Yeah, I hear Europeans can make vacuum cleaners that work too!
well, I have a double stroller, an umbrella (that I left at a friends house a month ago and have not run to get) and a lightweight stroller with a basket under the seat. I like the stroller in each car idea, because who needs to buckle two babies in AND remember to get the stroller in- too much lifting and carrying. I found also, that the double stroller I used more when Emmaline was 2 and Georgiana was new. But now, Emmaline and Georgiana both walk a lot, so I like to use my lightweight, one seater, for the occasional rest (or timeout) that each one needs. And of course, I put my purse and bags in it too. As for my umbrella stroller, I like it, but since it has been abesent- I find that I REALLY like the basket on the lightweight and am not to eager to retrieve my umbrella stroller. My lightweight is very compact too- as much as the umbrella- so, anyway, I guess I would say...one double, one lightweight and one umbrella? Good Luck.
I say go for a backpack or snugli for the new baby and keep Jack in the stroller. Those double strollers are hard to manuver and overall I think very overrated and over priced.
Now if you were to get one free, take it.
Get a moby wrap--as long as your kids don't run to the 20-lbs and 3 months-old variety
